If you can imagine massive icebergs, 10-12 stories high,       not only in mid day light, but in picturesque twilight, then you have an idea of what the experience of Ilulissat and Disko Bay can be like during “midnight sun”.  Add in whales surfacing and diving with the big ice as a backdrop and it becomes even more unique. Our dates are timed for the best evening colors as well as fascinating daytime experiences.

We’ll divide our time between land and water. The architecture of the community, typically small in scale, is very colorful and the location on the rocky tundra provides quite a nice environment. There is also a UNESCO heritage area that we can explore with access to the point where the glacier (Sermeq Kujalleq) sheds icebergs into Disko Bay. We’ll have ample time to explore all of this.

An equally important part of the tour will be our cruises on Disko Bay. We’ll have three midnight sun cruises on our own charter giving us flexibility to go whever the ice and light are most interesting. At least 1 other daytime cruise will be scheduled in the ice fjord itself. And we’ll enjoy a full day trip to a small remote Greenlandic village combined with opportunities to find whales in the ice. If other opportunities present, we will try to take advantage.

The tour will begin in Nuuk which we can now reach directly from the US. Our first 2 nights will be there allowing a bit of rest after a long first day of travel. That will be followed by 5 nights in Ilulissat, and then a final night in Nuuk to connect with our return flights.

The tour is designed for 8-10 people. The cost, for this number of travelers, is $6750 and includes single accommodation in all our hotels. The hotels are all very nice, all with ensuite baths.

The cost includes: 8 nights hotel stays (3 nights in Nuuk and 5 nights in Ilulissat) including breakfast and all transfers and charter cruises for our group on Disko Bay

Participants are responsible for their travel to/from Nuuk and Ilulissat (flights from the US to Nuuk, and Nuuk to Ilulissat)  and for meals other than breakfast

A pdf with all of the tour details can be dowloaded here .

I have been to Ilulissat over several visits. If you would like to see what it’s like, galleries from those trips are here:
