This remote area in the northwest corner of Argentina on the border with Chile is a truly unique and spectacular landscape setting. As you come up from the lowland valleys (3,000-5,000 feet) to the higher altiplano (13-14,000 feet) the features gradually change and the character of the high Puna desert becomes more and more dramatic. Characterized by beautiful salars, colorful sedimentary deserts, and volcanic remnants, this is an otherworldly place. Remote and at high altitude and worth every bit of what it takes to get there.

Be sure to continue to the high Puna desert 2 gallery to complete the tour.
