Sintra is a hilltop area to the north of Lisbon near the ocean. It is the location of many points of historic interest dating back to the Roman era and later to the Moors. Its high vantage point and rainforest climate add considerable scenic interest. And there are many palaces, villas, gardens that add to it’s significance. It has been designated as a Unesco World Heritage Site, and is one of the most heavily visited areas in Portugal.
