Las Cuernos mountainformation, Torres del Paine

Photograph magnificent Patagonia — the breathtaking southern region of Chile and Argentina, where beautiful glaciers and dramatic mountains abound. Our timing is at the height of the fall color season.

We’ll begin in Los Glaciares National Park, home to Perito Moreno glacier, which may be the most dramatic of all the southern glaciers. It has a massive face, rising as much as 300 feet, and can be photographed from many viewpoints. We’ll also cruise over the beautifully colored Lago Argentina where we may see spectacular icebergs on our way to Estancia Christina and another marvelous glacier, the Upsala Glacier.

In Los Glaciares, we’ll also photograph the iconic Mt. Fitzroy, which overlooks the village of El Chalten. While in El Chalten, we’ll take some hikes to get to viewpoints of Fitzroy, Cerro Torre (another beautiful peak) and some of the glacial lakes. These will require some fitness but should be fine for everyone.

From El Chalten we’ll drive to Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park, which is the location of two picturesque mountain formations, Las Cuernos (The Horns) and Las Torres (the Towers), as well as Grey Glacier where we’ll take a boat to photograph directly in front of the glacier. Torres del Paine also has dramatic waterfalls, lakes and rivers with beautiful glacial colors. And it’s the home for diverse wildlife, including guanaco, fox, puma and condors.
